Some interesting facts
Sankt Gallen has been a Roman Catholic episcopal see since 1846. The most notable landmarks are the abbey church and the former monastic buildings. The church (1755–72), one of the finest Baroque structures in Switzerland, is now the Roman Catholic cathedral.
The capital is Sankt Gallen. The population is German speaking and about half Roman Catholic and more than one-fourth Protestant.
With success: we have constantly been ranked among the top business schools in Europe. In its 2022 ranking of European business Schools, The Financial Times recognised the University of St. Gallen as one of the best in Europe.
St. Gallen, the small metropolis of Eastern Switzerland, is, in many ways, like a large cosmopolitan city. And this title suits it well. It owes this reputation not just to the monastery complex, which is a World Cultural Heritage Site, but also to the success of its textile industry.
Gallen’s most famous landmark is its Baroque cathedral with the Abbey Library, which houses some 170,000 documents – in part hand-written and over a thousand years old. The library probably also has Switzerland’s most beautiful Rococo hall. The entire Abbey precinct was declared a UNESCO world heritage site in 1983.
